Final Fantasy XIV’s year in rewind

Before we head into the expansion year for the beloved MMORPG, let’s take a look at the great year it has had.

Fan Festivals in Las Vegas and London
This year we saw that the beloved Fan Festivals were back IRL again! In July, Las Vegas hosted the North American version, and in October London hosted a European Fan Festival. Both events featured breaking news, live entertainment, fun activities for those at the events in person, and a plethora of old and new FFXIV fans meeting up!

Expansion reveal
During the Las Vegas Fan Festival, the fantastic Square Enix team announced the next expansion: Dawntrail. It’s the game’s fifth expansion and is set to release in the Summer of 2024. Yoshida-san has jokingly said that he wants to bring “the very best summer vacation a hero could have” with Dawntrail.

Xbox launch confirmed
In July, it was confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV is coming to Xbox! Later the Square Enix team also confirmed that the launch will happen in spring 2024, and a beta version will release in early 2024.

Class reveal
We recently also saw news about the new jobs coming with Dawntrail! One of them has been revealed: The melee damage dealer Viper. They use twin blades to deal swift attacks to their enemies. The second job has yet to be shown, so look forward to that!

 

Extended free trial
In the second half of the year, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XIV’s free trial would be extended! Now, the free trial includes Stormblood and new players can play all the way up to level 70. They also have 16 jobs to choose from, and there’s no limit on playtime on your free trial.
